Corruption

Corruption

Corruption is a form of dishonesty or a criminal offense which is undertaken by a person or an organization which is entrusted with a position of authority, in order to acquire illicit benefits or abuse power for one's personal gain.

Corruption is the umbrella term for various activities conducted by those in positions of power, quite often those with political power, by abuse of those powers entrusted to them. Bribery is, perhaps, the most commonly cited form of corruption but the concept of corruption is much wider and is not restricted to the politerati.

Fundamental to identifying and mitigating corruption risk is an understanding of corruption in its various guises.

Corruption erodes trust, weakens democracy, hampers economic development and further exacerbates inequality, poverty, social division and the environmental crisis.

Exposing corruption and holding the corrupt to account can only happen if we understand the way corruption works and the systems that enable it. Corruption can take many forms, and can include behaviours like:

  • Public servants demanding or taking money or favours in exchange for services.
  • Politicians misusing public money or granting public jobs or contracts to their sponsors, friends and families, corporations bribing officials to get lucrative deals.
  • Corruption can happen anywhere in business, government, the courts, the media, and in civil society, as well as across all sectors from health and education to infrastructure and sports.
  • Corruption can involve anyone politicians, government officials, public servants, business people or members of the public.

We as the organisation Jammu & Kashmir RTI Movement strongly opposed this corruption system and keenly watching this bribe system entirely Jammu-Kashmir region and ready to pledge to expose this crime.
